Foreign companies continue to invest in the Netherlands, creating employment opportunities primarily in the Randstad (a large conurbation comprising four major cities: Amsterdam; Utrecht; The Hague; and Rotterdam). In addition to the ICT and chemical sectors, the sustainable energy sector in particular is attracting foreign investors. In contrast, less foreign money is being invested in research and development and in the logistics sector. These are the conclusions of research into foreign investment worldwide, presented recently by IBM. Results indicate that foreign companies maintained the same level of investment in the Netherlands in 2008 as in the preceding year, whilst foreign investments by companies actually decreased on a global scale.
