Finance Minister Jan Kees de Jager received a delegation from the ICBC, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, on the basis of its market value the largest bank in the world.
The Chinese, headed by chairman of the board Jiang Jianqing, are in the Netherlands on the occasion of the opening of their first branch. Besides this branch, the ICBC also opens branches in Spain, Belgium, Italy and France.
Holland Financial Centre (HFC), Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), the Municipality of Amsterdam and the State have closely worked together to get the ICBC to the Netherlands.
Minister De Jager is therefore very happy with the arrival of the Chinese: "This is an example of the very fruitful cooperation with and the good ties between China and the Netherlands. The trading relationship with China is very important for us and we are very much aware of the crucial importance of financial institutions for these relations. Of course we hope that it results in more interest from China".
Last year the Minister visited China among others to promote the Netherlands, among Chinese companies and institutions, as a country to use as a basis for business. At the time, he also visited the ICBC.
